Jenni Rude (USA: MN) (2008/03/18): I'm not an expert on Koontz and I'm not sure if I like his style just yet. But this is a good book. I'll admit it, the dog had me with its love of books and later learned to read. And who doesn't want a dog that can spell messages with Scrabble tiles? The book follows several story lines which eventually merge together closer to the end. Some of the plot points are expected and can be anticipated (which is why I'm not sure if I like this style). I dislike how the Outsider's subplot was abandoned part way through the book. Though you knew where it would remerge eventually, I would have like to see its journey to find the dog especially after agents stumble upon its lair and you learn about it 'upbringing'. But all and all it is still a fun read and gripping enough to keep me up until three thirty in the morning to finish. Incidently, they name the dog Einstein.
