Charlotte (United Kingdom) (2008/08/21): Like with many of Maeve Binchy's books, there are numerous amounts of characters and sub stories along side the main plot. In her other books this works very well, however I felt that the main characters' relationship was overlooked somewhat. Additionally, I felt some of the smaller plots were cut short. The ending I found a little dissappointing, however was full of narrative and I really got a feel for the main characters.

What I liked:The book went by fast for me, and was a very easy and relaxing read, the kind of read you would enjoy on a plane ride or on the train, because the story was able to envelope me for hours... in other words, it was a real page turner! The characters, even Danny Lynch, were realistic and it was easy for me to sympathize with them. What I did not like: I did not like the ending. Reading the book and watching the main marriage fall apart was kind of painful for me, because I especially liked the pairing. Overall: This book was my first Binchy book, and I very much enjoyed it. If you are looking for a Shopaholic type of book, look somewhere else because this is not that kind of book. That does not mean it's depressing, but that it presents a view of marriage that's not all lilac and daisies. 5/5
